About The Position

The Hub Peer Support Specialist position will assist in daily activities at the Recovery Hub. These responsibilities include providing peer support within the Hub, facilitating classes, conducting outreach to community partners, inventory management, and sharing lived experience with community members that attend the hub/cafe. The peer support specialist support focuses on increasing the individual’s desire to live as independently as possible and being an active participant in their recovery journey while reestablishing their community roles related to the 8 dimensions of wellness as defined by SAMSHA (ex. Spiritual, Emotional, Physical, Occupational, Social, Intellectual, Environmental, Financial). They will be responsible for ensuring a welcoming and inclusive environment, assisting visitors with inquiries, and providing administrative support to the organization and leadership team. The Peer Support Specialist will provide administrative support to the organization by utilizing multiple EHR systems, Microsoft Office Suite, and other applications as identified.

What You’ll Do

  • Program Development and Peer Support: Lead and facilitate classes, recovery circles, and educational groups. Actively seek and build relationships with community partners, stakeholders, and members who may benefit from services. Provide peer support to an assigned caseload as identified by the supervisor. Actively participate in staff meetings, supervision sessions, peer support activities, and team/group discussions. Gather and incorporate peer feedback for classes, supplies, etc.
  • Service Monitoring: Maintain up-to-date documentation in accordance with agency expectations, policies, and procedures (e.g., monthly outcomes reports, Penelope EHR, daily work logs). Complete hub interest forms and document initial contact during front desk support. Maintain an accurate inventory of HUB supplies for staff and peers including ordering.
  • Quality Assurance: Assist in gathering information and building relationships with individuals for engagement and support. Ensure accurate and timely completion of documentation and reporting requirements.
  • Collaboration: Connect peers to community resources and internal PRN programs while supporting them in navigating these resources. Interface with peers, colleagues, service providers, family members, and community members in a professional, empathetic manner.
  • Outreach and Advisory: Respond to inquiries about services, programs, and resources. Greet visitors in a professional manner and maintain a welcoming front desk atmosphere. Answer and direct incoming calls appropriately. Attend local and statewide trainings and additional required sessions. Represent the agency professionally within the community and workplace.
  • Other Duties as Assigned: Assist with administrative tasks, such as filing, data entry, and office supply management or other duties assigned by the Harm Reduction and Recovery Programs manager or Executive Leadership.

Qualifications & Experience

  • Current North Carolina Certified Peer Support Specialist.
  • Belief in the recovery potential of all people and is committed to the philosophy of peer support by reinforcing their ability to work and/or achieve personal goals.
  • Ability to receive guidance, training, and mentoring to grow skills and knowledge.
  • Demonstrates leadership by modeling PRN’s mission, values, philosophy, and guidance to team members.
  • Demonstrates taking personal responsibility, being dependable, reliable, working as a team player, and utilizing personal determination skills.
  • Demonstrates honesty, integrity, is ethical and approachable.
  • Ability to interact effectively with the public, providers, and other stakeholders.
  • Committed to personal recovery and wellness and has a personal history of recovery and lived experiences in seeking and receiving crisis-based support.
  • Ability to manage time and complete tasks.
  • Knowledge of a variety of computer software applications in word processing, spreadsheets, databases and presentation.
  • Excellent communication skills (oral and written) using active and reflective listening, asking curious questions, validating others’ experiences, remaining non-judgmental, and demonstrating effective conflict resolution skills.
  • Must have a valid NC Driver’s license and the ability to travel statewide and nationally.
