About The Position
The Warmline Peer Support Specialist provides pre-crisis support, encouragement, and resourceful information to individuals feeling isolated, managing mental health and/or substance use challenges, and seeking support or resources.

What You’ll Do
- Caller Support: Establish and maintain supportive, non-judgmental relationships with callers, regardless of their cultural or economic background.
- Active Listening: Remain calm and empathetic, especially when engaging with individuals in emotional distress.
- Empowerment: Provide support that empowers callers to find their own solutions without fixing, advising, or minimizing their experiences.
- Resource Connection: Identify caller needs and connect them to necessary resources and support services.
- Crisis Identification: Distinguish between scenarios requiring peer support and situations that necessitate escalation to leadership or urgent services.
- Recovery-Oriented Approach: Honor and validate caller experiences, demonstrating belief in their recovery potential and unique process.
- Lived Experience Sharing: Use personal recovery experiences to validate callers while maintaining professionalism and boundaries.
- Documentation: Complete all required call logs and data tracking accurately and on time.
- Call Guidelines: Adhere to program standards for call handling, attendance, and use of non-judgmental language.
- Team Collaboration: Maintain communication with shift leads and peer supporters during shifts, and report concerns in real-time.
- Professional Representation: Represent PRN in the community and workplace with professionalism and integrity.
- Training and Meetings: Attend bi-weekly staff meetings and comply with training requirements.
Qualifications
- NC Certified Peer Support Specialist
- Strong belief in the recovery potential of all individuals and commitment to the peer support philosophy.
- Personal history of recovery and lived experience in crisis-based support.
Skills & Abilities
- Excellent oral and written communication, including active and reflective listening.
- Time management and task efficiency.
- Conflict resolution and problem-solving skills.
- Proficiency in computer applications (e.g., Microsoft Teams, spreadsheets, databases).
- Ability to work both independently and collaboratively.
- Basic knowledge of community support services and resources.
