Court Team Peer Support

PRN’s Court Team offers voluntary support as people navigate court involvement or prepare to return to the Mecklenburg County community. Rooted in shared lived experience, our team understands the impact of legal involvement and the importance of building a life free of court involvement. Our work is grounded in connection, healing, dignity, supported decision making, personal responsibility and the preservation of freedom and rights.

What does the Court Team do?

We stand with people as they navigate court involvement and the re-entry journey, offering steady support, knowledge, and connection rooted in shared experience. We also serve as a partner, sharing the impact of trauma, culture, poverty, inequity, and systems involvement on the healing journey and challenge carceral approaches to mental health and substance use services.

What support does the Court Team offer?

The Court Team walks alongside people involved in the court process or preparing for release as they find and use their voice, stay informed, and engage in supportive and trusting relationships throughout their journey. The team focuses on strengthening wellness, encouraging accountability without judgment, and creating pathways for wellness beyond court involvement. We do this by offering support with navigating court expectations, preparing for hearings, re-imagining their future, regaining freedom, planning for re-entry, and connecting with resources for employment, housing, and chosen community.

Who does the Court Team support?

The Court Team supports people with active court cases in Mecklenburg County, people currently incarcerated who are preparing for release, and anyone referred by judges, attorneys, or community partners.

What are the core values of the Court Team?

The Court Team is grounded in dignity, shared lived experience, transparency, accountability without judgment, and the belief that every person has the ability to heal, grow, and reimagine their future.
